REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo

It’s finally here! The REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo takes place this week in Washington, D.C., and we can’t wait to see so many of you in person. For those of you who can’t attend, be sure to follow along on Legislative Live!

While much of the meetings are U.S.-focused, there are a number of meetings and events that benefit both our U.S. and international audiences. In fact, we are excited to announce our highest international attendance ever this year!

We will welcome 90 international guests from 27 countries attending the DC Meetings. They’re coming from Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Belize, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, France, Greece, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Ukraine and the UK! Let’s hear it for our awesome Global Alliances Team for helping make this happen (Joe, Alex, Supap and Bethsy) and to our Ambassador Association representatives for helping them feel welcome.

Tuesday, May 15
CIPS Advisory Board meeting
OMNI SHOREHAM HOTEL, Executive Room, West Conference Center

This meeting is for those who are members of the CIPS Advisory Board and is open to those who are interested in the CIPS updates.

Global Alliances Advisory Board meeting
OMNI SHOREHAM HOTEL, Hampton Room, East Conference Center

A jam packed meeting for all President’s Liaisons, Regional Coordinators and representatives from Ambassador Associations. This year there will be 2 case studies presented – one on a successful Ambassador Association – Cooperating Association – President’s Liaison experience and one from 2 President’s Liaisons who have helped their cooperating associations put on NAR courses; a presentation on The HUB; a brief presentation on the upcoming Congress in Costa Rica and finally, Breakout Sessions for PLs, AAs, and RCs. President’s Liaisons, Regional Coordinators and Ambassador Association representatives are required to be at this meeting. Sign-in sheet will be in back of room.  

CIPS Global Programs for Associations (SOLD  OUT)

WASHINGTON HILTON, Cardozo Room, Terrace Level

Association staff and volunteers interested in developing and growing global programs in your association and preparing REALTORS® to succeed in a global marketplace should consider attending this course. We will help you understand the value of educating members on the growing global marketplace and how to take advantage of it locally. This is one of the required courses for association staff to earn the CIPS Designation, it does give Core Standards Credit for AEs and it counts as points on the Designation Application for REALTORS®. (next course offering in Boston on 10/31/18).

Global Business & Alliances Committee

Get your updates on NAR Global directly from the GBA’s 2018 Chair Mario Arriaga and hear important discussions regarding international real estate and politics.  Russell Riggs will provide us with important Legislative Updates; Panel discussion on Anti-Money Laundering Legislation; Presentation on How to Prepare and Utilize Your Local Market at a Global Trade Show with Missouri REALTORS® CEO John Sebree and the VP of International Business Recruitment at Missouri Partnerships, Dennis Pruitt; Bilateral signing of a new NAR partner from Andorra. Attendance from Committee members is required.

 CIPS Networking Reception and Pinning Ceremony (ticketed event) – SOLD OUT

Come network with like-minded global professionals and fellow CIPS Designees and enjoy delicious hors d’ouevres and drinks. New CIPS Designees will be officially pinned at the event. It is a great way to network with CIPS Designees, President’s Liaisons, Regional Coordinators, and representatives of Ambassador Associations all in one room. This event has sold out and tickets will not be sold onsite. There is no formal waiting list so your best bet is asking around at the meetings to see if someone has an extra they won’t be using.

Global Business Councils Forum: Roundtables: Why, What and How to Go Global
OMNI SHOREHAM HOTEL, Palladian Room, Main Floor

This year’s forum includes roundtable discussions, enabling peer-to-peer exchange of ideas, solutions and best practices. Topics include: Making the Case for a Global Structure, Building the Bridge – Internal and External Collaboration, Education Session Topics/Speakers and Incorporating International Partnerships (Ambassador Associations/Memorandums of Understanding/Trade Missions). Each participant has the opportunity to choose and discuss two topics for 30 minutes each.

NAR Global in the Expo
This year NAR Global will be part of the large NAR Booth, Booth #1707 with a kiosk there to help with any questions you might have. The CIPS Team will be a part of the Center for REALTOR® Development Booth, booth #1813 for any questions on CIPS Education.

Cindy Fauth (RCE, AHWD, CIPS, ePRO,) is Director of Global Marketing & Business Development for the National Association of REALTORS® Commercial & Global Services team. She joined NAR in September 2009, helping real estate agents and associations "go global" by promoting the programs and tools of NAR Commercial & Global Services.
