Helping state and local associations in the U.S. grow their global presence is a key initiative for the NAR Global team. Two dedicated staff members focus on helping to support and build Global Business Councils around the United States. With over 1,200 state and local associations as the target audience, that’s a lot of legwork! 2018 has already been a busy year, so we thought we’d paint a picture of the work we’re doing around the country and share it with you. We hope that knowing where we’ve been will encourage you to reach out and collaborate with these boards, and see what best practices you might “borrow” for your own association!
Since January, we have presented the Global Programs for Associations course to 49 students in Portland, Charlotte and Boston. This course is the cornerstone for helping association staff and volunteer leaders understand the full breadth of what it takes to develop and grow global member programs to prepare REALTORS® for success in the global marketplace. It also helps explain how to connect your global groups to the outside business community in order to position your market and your members for incoming global business opportunities. Interested in taking the course? The next course (at our legislative meetings in DC) is sold out, but mark your calendar for the course at the REALTORS® Conference and Expo in Boston on October 31!
Our outreach has also included presentations to associations in Downers Grove, IL; Dayton, OH; Iowa City, IA; and Las Vegas, NV. We participated in the Region XI Members Edge conference in Albuquerque, NM, presenting on the impact of global in your local market. Our primary message that we try to get across in these outreach visits and presentations is that global opportunities are waiting for you in your own backyard – take a look at your local market through a different lens and you’ll notice the international business opportunities. “Going global” doesn’t have to mean getting on an airplane and selling property overseas.
In addition to the in-person meetings and presentations, we’ve had some great conference calls with association staff and volunteer leaders around the United States. Exciting opportunities await us in the second half of the year, and we can’t wait to expand our network from 130 global councils to many, many more!
