A Video Postcard From Southern California

Thanks to inexpensive and easy-to-use online tools, it’s never been easier for real estate practitioners to connect with their colleagues in other countries. The Tri-Counties Association of REALTORS®, based in Walnut, Calif., recently provided an example of how REALTOR® groups can leverage Web resources to communicate with their foreign counterparts.

The Tri-Counties association was appointed as NAR’s Ambassador Association to the Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) at the end of 2013. Early this year, members of that group’s global business council discussed ways to reach out to the cooperating association in Malaysia with Pili Meyer, CIPS, NAR’s President’s Liaison to that country. Meyer mentioned she was traveling to MIEA’s annual convention in March and offered to bring a gift from the members of the Tri-Counties association.

“We couldn’t figure out how to give a ‘gift’ to so many people, so I came up with the idea of the video,” said Penny Liu, the 2014 chair of the Tri-Counties Association of REALTORS®’ global group. “It would show them who we are and what we do, and hopefully it will inspire them to attend the NAR convention. So, originally this video was made as our gift to our counterparts in Malaysia.

“It’s really taken a life of its own,” she added. “Now we plan to show it at events like our general meeting, new membership training, broker meetings … besides promoting the global committee, it helps to explain what the board does.”
